Emotions are running high in my community this week. We have experienced the death of some pillars of our community in the last few days, and there is a cloud of sadness as well as rain clouds looming. The rain clouds seem to just add to the mood.

June Cleaver, Carol Brady, Clair Huxtable and Olivia Walton are just a few of the mothers that we have watched on TV over the years and admired. What was so special about these ladies? Well, for one thing, they seem to have it all together. They were full of wisdom, and their kids thought they were wonderful.

Have you ever tried to lift a box so wide that you just cannot get a grip on it by yourself? If you have then, you know the relief when someone comes along and grabs the other side. Maybe, you’ve tried to move something so heavy that you couldn’t budge it alone, but it becomes manageable when someone helps you.

Just as nature has seasons, so do our lives. Some seasons, we seem to just glide along for a while with all going well. Other seasons bring a crisis and put us in survival mode. Sometimes, we feel confident and able to handle what comes our way. There is yet another season when there is no major crisis but we are busy, and things are coming at us faster than we can handle.

One of my favorite books in the Bible is the book of Ruth. This little four-chapter book is packed full of emotions. We get to see all those emotions played out as we journey through a difficult stretch of life with the main characters. Please take time to read the book of Ruth.

Poetry, whether we think we like it or not, has had a significant role in most of our lives since the days when Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, and Little Bo Peep lost her sheep. In its simplest form poetry taught us words and rhymes.

On March 24, Earl Hamner, Jr., novelist, screenwriter and TV writer, died at the age of 92. You may not recognize his name you will certainly recognize his work. He is the author of the novel "Spencer’s Mountain" and creator of TV show "The Waltons" based on this novel.

This is Easter week. It is the time that we remember the death of our Savior but, more importantly, His resurrection.
The Bible gives us an account of three women on their way to the tomb where Jesus had been buried.

This week I had the privilege of leading the prayer meeting for the upcoming women’s conference at my church. Our Theme is Open Door. I wanted to share with you the thoughts and poem that I wrote for that occasion.
Have you ever pushed on a door that had a pull sign posted on it? Have you ever done it again even though it did not work the first time? Me too. Why? We didn’t read the instructions. Have you tried to do life without reading the instruction book? God gave us the Bible so that we don’t have to push when we should be pulling.

I have a very special guest blogger this week. My daughter Jessa Potts is a high school senior. She will attend Union University in Jackson, Tennessee in the fall and plans on majoring in graphic design. She is an avid reader and holds leadership roles in school, church, and her community. Please prayerfully continue to read her blog.

On treasure maps, X marks the spot, but it’s the arrows that show the way. If you were looking for treasure, you would wonder aimlessly not knowing which path led you to your destination if it were not for the arrows.
Where else do you see arrows? Roads have arrows. Do you remember the old movies where arrow is pointing the way to place the person wants to go but someone sinister comes along and changes the sign to point a new direction?

Shhhhhhh… Thursday, February 25 is National Quiet Day. With a little research, I found that this holiday was originally started by the Anglican Church for devotions and meditations. I think they had the right idea.

When my daughter was small, she enjoyed painting with watercolors. One particular picture caught my attention and I framed it and hung it on the wall.
Years past and she grew into a teenager she asked why I framed the picture. She said it was just marks on a page. I told her that I thought it looked like an angel. Did she intend it to be an angel? Probably not. But, I saw it as an angel because I looked at it with the eyes of love.
