Do you remember when you got your high school class ring? Way back when I was in high school, it was a big deal. It meant that you were moving up in the ranks. It meant that you had this high school thing figured out and that soon you were graduating and going out to start the rest of your life.

There is one sight prevalent late in the day at any amusement park that you might choose. I’m sure you have seen this very common sight. It is the vision of tired little children on their daddy’s shoulders or being pushed by their parents in a stroller headed for the exit gate.

Do you remember watching the TV show, Little House on the Prairie? I especially remember the episode where the oldest daughter, Mary was losing her eyesight. She was sitting at the table trying to read, and she reached out and pulled the coal oil light closer. At that time, she didn’t realize that the problem was within herself and not in external circumstances and certainly not with the light. The lamp was burning as bright as it ever had. It was her own sight that had dimmed.

I have been working on a project with a friend for some time now, and at various intervals, she has given me contributions to the project. Many times when she gives me something it is in a brown envelope. One of the things that she gave me was a package of pictures. After talking about it, she decided that she didn’t want to use those pictures, so she asked for them back.

Philemon is a little book tucked in the New Testament right before Hebrews. If you will remember Paul wrote this book to Philemon, Paul asked Philemon to welcome back without punishment a runaway slave, named Onesimus, who had previously stolen from Philemon. He felt that he knew Philemon well enough to be confident that he would do the right thing.

On the way to a writer’s conference, my family and I stopped and visited the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. If you will remember, they made the news in 2014 because they experienced a large sinkhole that swallowed eight of cars in their collection.

We know that the lion is referred to as the king of the jungle. There is something majestic in the way that he holds himself. He walks with confidence and roars with power to declare that title. But do you know what you call a dead lion? You call him a dead lion.

Sunday is Father’s Day and as we honor our earthly fathers, let’s remember our Heavenly Father. Can you remember a time when you got yourself in a bad situation, and your Dad swooped in to save the day? Maybe it was a problem at school with a teacher, or maybe you broke your favorite toy, and your dad fixed it. One of the jobs of dads is to fix things.

Habakkuk is a little book tucked in the Old Testament with a big message. We don’t know a lot about Habakkuk. He identifies himself as a prophet, and we know that he was a prophet with questions. This book of the Bible is a conversation between the searching prophet and God.

I may have shared this story before on my blog. If so forgive me, I have written enough blogs now that I can’t remember them all. When I was little and would say things like, “I can’t wait for Christmas” or “Only a few more days until school is out.” My mother would always tell me not to wish my life away.

Who do you want to meet when you get to heaven? I know that first and foremost we want to see Jesus. The other obvious answer is family members and friends who have gone on before us. But, what about Bible characters? Is there someone from the Bible that you want to talk to when you get to heaven?

When I was a little girl, my father came home one day with a beautiful Spitz dog. We were so excited and could not wait to play with our new friend and get our hands in that billowy white fur. But just as my dad bent down to undo the leash the dog growled and snapped at him. He jerked his hand back just in time to avoid being bitten.
