Potts Pages - Old or New-You Choose
July 15, 2016
There is something about us humans that causes us to like new things. Even as a child we like a shiny new penny or a new toy. As an adult, we shop because we like new things. Writers like a new blank page even if it is on the computer screen. This is why we like New Year’s Day. It is a chance for a do-over. We think we can forget about what we have messed up and get a fresh start.
So, we make goals and plans for the new. If we buy a new product, we have all these images of how it will serve us. As writers, we plan the wonderful best-selling words that will fill that blank page. On New Year’s Day, we make resolutions or goals for the year.
As much as we like the new, I think we like the old even better. That’s, okay if we are talking about a warm, snuggly blanket or a comfortable old pair of shoes. It is not okay to get stuck in the familiar if it keeps us from moving on to new opportunities and accomplishing our goals.
We are more than halfway through 2016. How are those goals you made in January going for you? Do you even remember what they were? Maybe, you are right on track. If so, that’s great! Keep moving forward.
For the rest of us, there is good news. We can refocus and get back on the path. So, let’s dig ourselves out of our old comfortable rut that we have fallen back into and accomplish those goals for this year. There is still time, but we don’t need to waste any more of it. We certainly don’t need to give up and think this year is half over so why try.
Let’s take some time with the Lord and see what he has in store for us in the latter half of this year. Ready! Set! Go!
“It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.” (Psalm 18:32)
