This is Jessa, and I am guest blogging this week! Mom is currently attending the annual Kentucky Christian Writers’ Conference.
I recently returned from my youth group’s mission trip to Ruston, LA. It was a great week, and you could feel God working through the people in attendance. Our group was one of many in attendance, so there were many large group worship services as well as small group sessions with just our church. My youth group mainly worked at a recreational center that is partnered with a children’s home that deals with rehab and psychological issues of its residents.
There were many memorable moments and messages from the week, but the one that stuck out most to me was our devotion about Jesus walking on water. This passage is found in Matthew 14:22-36. The section we focused on was Peter walking on the water toward Jesus. When Peter first got out of the boat, he was focused on Jesus, but he turned his focus on the scary storm and began to sink. Even though Peter got distracted, Jesus still reached out to save him!
Today, we live in a world full of distraction. There is always something that takes our attention. We tend to be consumed by the storms in our life. Worrying about problems will “sink” us because we are taking our eyes off of Jesus. He will always be there to pull us out, so lock your eyes in on walking toward Jesus and let him take care of the storms.

“But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Matthew 14:27)
