Potts Pages - Fan the Flame
January 12, 2016
Winter is approaching. Many of you have already seen significant snow. In my neck of the woods, we have only had a dusting of snow, but we have had some cold temperatures.
When we get cold, physically it’s uncomfortable, and we start finding ways to get warm. We pull out the blankets, turn up the heat or maybe even light a fire.
We often say that we live in a cold world or that we need the fire of revival to sweep through our nation. The only way this can happen is by lighting individual fires in our own lives. The 70’s hymn, Pass It On, says, “It only takes a spark to get a fire going and soon all those around can warm up in its glowing.”
What do we do when we get cold spiritually? Does it make us uncomfortable? Let’s start this year off by lighting a spiritual fire; a new fire of commitment, a new fire of prayer, a new fire of love for others and a new fire of love for the Lord.
Fires need to be fanned to keep them from going out. So let’s fan our fires by spending more time alone with the Lord in true worship, seeking him and his will for our lives. May this be our prayer in the days ahead, “Lord, light a new fire in me and help me to light a new fire in my world for you.” I can’t wait to share the warmth from your blazing spirits in the coming days.
“Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame.” (Romans 12:11) (MSG)
