Potts Pages - Bread and More

Happy Thanksgiving! We are so blessed, and we have so much for which to be thankful. We are lavished with abundance.
The Lord’s Prayer says, “Give us this day our daily bread.” In America, when we say “daily bread” we mean, three meals, two snacks and an occasional add-a-dish. We are so richly blessed with abundance and variety when it comes to food.
We plan our meals in advance. When we go to a new town, we scope out the restaurants. When we visit each other’s home, there is almost always food involved. Have you ever thought that God could have made food tasteless? Are you ready to give thanks now? God chose to give us pleasure in the ordinary by providing a scrumptious variety of food.
The food probably spoke most about in the Bible is bread. It is the necessary substance of life. Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.” (John 6:35) (NIV) He is the necessary substance for a spiritual life, “For in him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28) (NIV) But he is so much more than the necessary.
He says, “I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10) (KJV) He is the abundance. He gives an abundance of grace and mercy for our lives every day. He gives an abundance of joy and love. He not only sustains our physical life and our eternal life, but he does so much more, and he wants us to have that abundant life.
In giving thanks, we need to be most thankful for our salvation through the bread of life. As we are grateful for our physical and spiritual food this week, we need to pray for those that lack both. Then as we go, with a thankful heart, be willing to share out of the abundance that has been given to us. Sue

As I was reading this post, I was having a snack! I’ve never thought that God could have made food tasteless. Boy, I’m glad He didn’t! I stopped and thanked Him for that :) And for writers who help us see Him in a new way, as you did for me today. Happy Thanksgiving and may the Lord bless you and yours!
