Potts Pages - What’s Your Slogan?
October 07, 2018

I was people watching recently when I noticed that a large percentage of people had clothing with advertisements on them. Some were brand names, a favorite sports team or a popular vacation destination. There were a few that no one should wear or read that had something vulgar or distasteful on them. But, it was another category that I began to look for, and that category was shirts that had a word or phrase that displayed passion.

I saw shirts that said, “Live free,” and another that said, “Dream with your heart.” I even saw one that said, “He is risen, Hallelujah.” I wondered if we had to wear a slogan every day that expresses our true passion what would that look like. What are we passionate enough about to wear for the world to see? Would it change from day to day depending on our mood? Would it change depending on where we were going that day and who would see us?

If we are in Christ, we are representatives of his brand. We are his ambassadors, and we are to live as an image of him. We should desire that the world see us as such. That doesn’t mean that we have to sport a slogan every day. It just means that we live in a way that is pleasing to God and that points others to him.

We need to get up every morning and ask God to help us show our passion for him to the world. It must be an intentional act, or we will let our fickle feelings and attitudes determine how we look to others. If our passion for Christ isn’t what it should be, we can ask him to help us with that too. We need to make sure that we dress appropriately and that our outward appearance matches our inward passion and vice versa.

“Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!” (Romans 13:14) (MSG)

Great questions for thought? Would mine change depending on where I plan to be?
