Potts Pages - Thankful for Our Position
November 22, 2017

This month we have focused on being thankful. In my blog two weeks ago we focused on being thankful for our possessions and last week we thought about how thankful we are for the people in our lives. This week we will look at being thankful for our position.

If we know Christ, he has given us a position as part of his family. John 1:12 says, “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” As God’s children, we have an inheritance. Romans 8:16-17 says “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.” What an honor that the God of the universe would make a way for us to be part of his family by sending his son to die for us. Our response should be one of great gratitude.

The Bible tells us that if we have accepted the gift of salvation, that we are

  • Signed-“Rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:20)
  • Sealed-“When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:13-14)
  • Delivered-“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

If we are signed, sealed and delivered, then we can truly say to our Heavenly Father, “I’m yours.” And he says it back to us in 2 Corinthians 6:18 when he says “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

More than any other blessing we have this year we should be thankful for our position in Christ as his child. He promises that if we are his signed, sealed and delivered child ‘that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39) This is the securest position that we could ever hold, and we have it because he has chosen to hold us as his child.

Have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving!

“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.” (Psalm 9:1-2)
